INA and the Croatian Culture Club have established the INA Award for Promotion of Croatian Culture Worldwide in 1994. In the Award Rulebook, the founders stated that ‘’the aim of this award is giving recognition to authors, cultural workers and intuitions for promoting Croatian culture worldwide and informing world public of the spiritual development of Croatian people, as well as for creating and fostering cultural bonds between Croatia and the world, drawing attention to most valuable works and authors’’. For that purpose, the Award Committee and the Jury were formed. For as long as 15 years, the said bodies have been making decisions on laureates of this recognised and renowned award, the only such award in Croatia.
Over the last 15 years, over 350 proposals, names of individuals and institutions have arrived from Croatia and abroad, whose activities contributed to the aim of establishing this award. More than 500 various features - news, interviews in daily and weekly paper and magazines, radio news, TV features, special shows and similar have been published and broadcasted about award winners. Ina had prepared a special occasional booklet-monograph on each winner, which illustrated reasons why the specific person or institutions won the award. In time, the monograph was accompanied by a short documentary about the Award and the winner. Moreover, the award includes cash bonus of HRK 50,000 and the sculpture of the Award, work of academic sculptor Petar Barišić. Founders of the Award remained in contact with the winners; in this way, the cognition of their work on promoting our culture was always present. Texts yet to come will show how much Ina had helped numerous winners to continue their work. Award winners were welcomed by high state officials during awards presentations, only to name some: the President of the Republic of Croatia, the Prime Minister, president of the Croatian Parliament, the Minister of Culture, chairman of the Croatian Academy of Science sand Arts and other cultural institutions.
For the last 15 years the Committee is headed by Ivan Đerak, and today by Darko Markotić, Executive Director for Corporate Services. Until now the Jury is headed by Ranko Marinković, fellow of the Croatian Academy and writer, by Milan Moguš, fellow of the Croatian Academy and chairman of the Academy, and today by Želimir Mesarić, director and professor at the Academy for Dramatic Arts.
