INA is working intensively to remediate the area affected by the diesel fuel spill in Hvar

During the night of 25 April, a significant amount of diesel fuel leaked into the environment from a tank at INA’s Križna luka marine gas station in Hvar. Immediately upon learning of the incident, INA, together with all the services involved, began intensive work to remediate the affected area. Drone footage confirms that the pollution is currently under control.

The company Cian, together with the volunteer fire department Kaštel Gomilica and firefighters from INA Fire Services, has been working hard since Friday to contain and remove localized pollution. Additional dams have been collected and delivered to the island in case of need. All tanks at the station have been emptied and will be excavated after which comprehensive soil remediation will be carried out. To strengthen internal technical supervision, a team of engineers from the Rijeka Refinery arrived at the site too.

To minimize the disruption caused by the closure of this station, INA’s marine stations Vrboska-Marina and Jelsa on Hvar and those in Vis and Milna on Brač operate with extended working hours, ensuring continuity of service to the community. Additional tanks with blue diesel will also be provided.

An investigation is underway to determine what caused the fuel to leak from the tank into the sea. INA remains fully committed to a thorough and transparent remediation process and will continue to provide updates on its progress.
