Projects cooling cities: 10 projects selected as part of the INA Green Belt programme

INA Zagreb, 15 May 2026 – School gardens, parks, forest trails, educational green zones and outdoor community spaces. Across Croatia, projects are being introduced that are transforming everyday life in local communities. As part of the 13th INA Green Belt programme, 10 initiatives have been selected to receive co funding totalling EUR 65,000.

This year’s call for applications, which was open from 7 April to 6 May, attracted 170 submissions, demonstrating strong interest from schools, associations and public institutions in projects that improve the spaces where people live.

This year, the focus is on projects addressing the challenges of increasingly warmer cities through the creation of shade, the reduction of urban heat islands and the expansion of green areas that give citizens more opportunities to spend time outdoors.

The selected projects are:

• Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, Karlovac station – Green Belt of Slunj: Karlovac cave without waste
• Insula Rab County Special Hospital – Green protective belt of Insula Hospital
• Green Prelog Citizens Energy Association – South beneath the treetops
• Lokrum Reserve Public Institution – The Green Heart of Lokrum: Natural solutions for climate change
• “Mijat Stojanović” Primary School, Babina Greda – Stork courtyard of knowledge
• Humana Nova Social Cooperative – Green footprint of Humana Nova
• Đakovački Selci Primary School – FORESTionica
• Technical School Rijeka – Green School Garden: A sustainable learning and self sufficiency system
• Od Uha Do Uha Association – Green belt from ear to ear
• Argonauta Association for Nature and Environmental Protection and the Promotion of Sustainable Development – “Mature and Green: Pensioners and students contributing to the greening of public spaces”

“We are especially pleased that once again we can support projects that not only bring more greenery, but also create spaces where people want to spend time, socialise and enjoy the outdoors. Many of the projects also involve INA volunteers, meaning that the Green Belt programme is not only about financial support, but also about taking concrete action together within local communities. It is precisely these small, local changes that make a significant long-term difference to quality of life,” said Krešimir Katić, Director of Marketing Communications & Retail Partnering

The INA Green Belt programme has been running continuously since 2014 and is now one of the longest standing corporate social responsibility programmes in Croatia focused on environmental protection and the development of local communities.

Since the programme was launched, 179 projects across Croatia have been co funded, with a total value exceeding EUR 550,000. Through these projects, more than 26,000 trees, flowers and shrubs have been planted, enough to create a tree lined avenue stretching more than 15 kilometres, while more than 400,000 square metres of land have been greened, equivalent to an area larger than 56 football pitches.
